Indonesian Shadow Puppet with 9th graders

February 2009. Scarsdale High School, 9th grade. Collaborating teacher: Eve Eisenstadt.

The 9th graders art class was introduced to the Indonesian shadow puppet art form in February. They learned the social, cultural, and spiritual significance of one of the longest oral tradition in the world. In their project they created puppets based on their own interpretation of the art form itself. Learning a world culture is always a special, meaningful, and engaging learning experience for the people involved.
